What is NASS?

Welcome to NASS the University and College sports and activity survey, which aims to develop HE and FE-specific data on student participation. This survey has been developed to complement the Sport England Active People survey, first undertaken in 2006 which has sought to capture the wider population’s activity levels in sport and physical activity.

As the professional sports body that seeks to promote excellence in the provision, management and development of sport in higher & further Education, University and College Sport have been working to try and address this shortfall in partnership with the home nation sports councils, British University Sports Association and UUK.

It is against this background that UCS commissioned Leisure-net Solutions Ltd (LNS) to conduct the second NASS following from the first one undertaken in 2006. The aim of the survey is to establish benchmark figures on a national, regional and individual establishment basis for:

  • Facility Usage by staff, students and the community, in over 13 key sports and activities
  • Sporting representation by students of the university/college in 35 key sports and activities
  • Student activity levels and for their attitudes and perceptions towards physical activity
